Abstract A single plant of Allium tuberosum without pollen was discovered in the field and proved to be a male-sterile plant with female fertility. Tissue culture technique was used to multiply the male-sterile plant forming male-sterile clones which were used as female parent crossing with other lines. From the F1 plants, new strain J-54 and new cultivar Haijiu 1 have been bred. The male-sterile clones could be kept in test tube for a long time. New types of male-sterile plants were also found in self-crossed plants of 3 F1 hybrids and 2 cultivars and 5 new male-sterile clones have been established from them by tissue culture.
