Abstract Mycorrhizal is very popular and important symbiosis phenomena between higher plant roots and mycorrhizal fungi in the rhizosphere soil, and the arbuscular mycorrhizal (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal, AM) is one of the most prevalent type of mycorrhizal fungi. Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi(Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi, AMF or AM fungi) is a kind of the beneficial microbial, which can form symbionts with the majority of higher plant roots. AM fungi can form a dense filament network with the rhizosphere soil and root cortical cells. It not only influence the primary metabolism of the host plant, but also influence the plant secondary metabolism by enlarging the absorption area of the plant roots, improving the water use efficiency, promoting the absorption and utilization of the mineral nutrition elements, improving the Carbon and Nitrogen cycle. This review introduced the effects, research situation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on plant secondary metabolism, and the role and application potential of the ecological system.
