Abstract In the insect growth and development stages, insect chitinase and chitinase-like proteins play an important regulatory role. In recent years, new technologies were applied for the structure of insect chitinase, time and space expression, tissue specific expression and biological function of insect chitinase, and got many new research achievements. In this paper, the structure of insect chitinases classification, physiological function, recombinant expression, methods of detection of enzyme activity and influencing factors of enzyme activity and other aspects are discussed and reviewed.
